One of my Board responsibilities for the past year has been to be the Board Liaison to the Advocates.
Advocate members represent international, national, and regional organizations that are committed to improving performance and support ISPI at the highest level. In addition to two individual memberships, an annual conference registration, special recognition, and other benefits, this “think tank” of visionaries meets twice a year at exclusive symposiums.
These symposiums feature access to top executives, expert speakers, and small group sessions to share best practices and ideas on the state of the performance improvement industry. Additionally, Advocates are invited to private meetings with conference keynote speakers and have the opportunity to give input to the Society’s leadership.
During the most recent meeting, which was held in conjunction with the international conference in Toronto, the Advocates shared challenges and best practices related to change management, organizational alignment, and measurement. The quality of conversation is amazing, and it is a treat to be in the room with this group of learning and performance thought-leaders from major corporations.
Many participants say they often feel isolated in their own organizations and welcome this opportunity to come together with others in similar roles. “I realized I’m not the only one with this situation. Most of my peers are encountering the same issues,” one member explained.
The next meeting is scheduled for November 6-8, 2012, in Puerto Rico at an Advocate member’s manufacturing facility.

I hope to see you in Puerto Rico!
